How do I know if my mobile phone is in working order?

A working phone has to switch on, have no water damage and an undamaged screen.

How do I find out the manufacturer and model of my mobile phone?

Try taking the battery cover off and looking under the battery. The name of the manufacturer and mobile phone model are usually written on the sticker under the battery.

Do I need to send in all mobile accessories as well?

No, just send in the mobile with its battery fully charged. Chargers and other accessories are not needed and can damage the envelope.

Do I need to send the SIM card?

No, we do not need your SIM card. Please remove your SIM card before sending your phone.

Do I pay postage when I send my items to you?

You do not have to pay anything to send your items back to us. Simply place your mobile phones and inkjet cartridges in the freepost envelope that we provide and just post it back to us. We will not be responsible for mobile phones and inkjet cartridges lost, missing or stolen during transit. Mobile phones and inkjet cartridges that are missing will only be credited if a valid proof of postage can be provided.

What’s the best way to send my phone?

When sending your mobile phone to us, we recommend that you obtain a Certificate of Postage which can be obtained free of charge from any Post Office. If the mobile phone is subsequently lost in the post, it will be covered up to the value of 3200 points (£32 when you spend in store) and should be claimed directly from Royal Mail. If the value of the mobile phone is more than 3200 points (£32 when you spend in store), we recommend you send it to us using Special Delivery available from the Post Office. If you choose to use Special Delivery, this will be entirely at your own expense. Special Delivery enables you to track your mobile phone until it arrives with us and will insure you against its loss. Neither Boots nor Redeem accept any responsibility for mobile phones that are not received by us.

I selected to print a freepost address label and use my own envelope but now I can’t click back to the order confirmation page to print it. What can I do?

Don‘t worry, we‘ve sent you a confirmation email containing the freepost address label and the order summary that you need to put inside the envelope with your item(s)

Will I get confirmation?

We will email, text or post confirmation that we have received your items and confirm when your points will be ready for collection.

What if I change my mind?

I have a Republic of Ireland Advantage Card. Can I still participate?

No. This initiative is available to UK Advantage Card holders only.

Is there a limit to the number of phones I can send in?

The offer is limited to 3 phones per household in any 12 month period. The value of items returned beyond this limit will be donated to charity.

What happens if stolen mobiles are sent in?

We check every phone that is sent in against the national police database for stolen goods. Details of mobile phones suspected of being stolen will be referred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

What happens to my mobile phone and inkjet cartridge once I have sent it in?

If your mobile phone is in good working order it will be refurbished and sold on for reuse as an affordable means of communication predominantly in developing countries. Those that can’t be repaired are sent to be "end of life" recycled. The precious metals and other components that can be reused are extracted from the handset and any remaining materials smelted for energy recovery. Inkjet cartridges are refilled for reuse and returned to the consumer stream as a more environmentally friendly option.

What are the environmental benefits of recycling my phone?

When old mobile phones are thrown in the bin they end up in landfill sites across the country. Once in these sites they do not break down and may pollute surrounding soil and waterways, damaging plant and wildlife.

Why are Breast Cancer Care and The Eve appeal your chosen charities?

As part of our ongoing support for women’s cancer, Breast Cancer Care and The Eve Appeal are our national charity partners. We’ll donate £1 for every listed phone recycled and 20p for every listed inkjet cartridge. Donations will be split equally between the charities. Unfortunately, we are unable to make donations for unlisted phones and unlisted inkjet cartridges.

Can I donate all of my Advantage Card points to charity?

Sorry, we are unable to do this at this time.

How does Gift Aid work?

If you are a UK tax payer Breast Cancer Care and The Eve Appeal can claim an extra 28p for every £1 donation. You must pay an amount of Income Tax and / or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donations in the appropriate tax year (currently 28p for each £1 you give). Simply fill in your details on the freepost envelope or online and we’ll do the rest.
